Mentoring and Coaching
Mentoring with Piers has been invaluable. He has actively listened to my concerns, experiences and thoughts and responded not only with advice but tools that I can use in my day to day professional life. Having a mentor like Piers has instantly boosted my confidence on and off set and helped me to realise that I should be proud of my work and my abilities. The sessions have been structured but have an informal and approachable environment while retaining boundaries that are important to any kind of relationship.

Piers’s mentoring story
Piers always been interested in supporting those at an earlier stage of their careers, happy to share his experiences and insights. Until recently, this had always been in an informal way, through chance meetings on set or location. Through this informal mentoring, Piers has seen a number of young professionals establish themselves in a very testing and difficult industry.
Having decided to go through coaching himself in mid 2020, Piers began to see the value of formal coaching and mentoring across the film and television industry. With a majority of the workforce working as freelancers, there is no structure for newer professionals to feel supported by those with more experience.
With that in mind, Piers joined mentoring schemes at BECTU and at Screenskills. After his first mentoring experience, he became interested in developing his coaching skills and received a Screenskills bursary to fund formal training. After attending an online course, Piers is now a qualified, foundation-level coach/mentor accredited by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC).
If you wish to try a mentoring programme, you can apply to the schemes run by BECTU and Screenskills, but the matching process is managed entirely independently of the mentors. If you are keen to try mentoring with Piers specifically, please send him an email and he will get back in touch to discuss your requirements, timeframes and fees. Piers will always try to make the process affordable given your circumstances.
